Join fellow members and guests for a wonderful meal at Japoix at 975 Lincoln, followed by a short business meeting to elect board members and approve plans and budget. Then bid on wonderful items donated by collectors, businesses, friends, and associates to take home. Proceeds fund operating expenses including speaker's costs for the Asian Art Association.

Saroj Merani, Senior Faculty at the Xavier Institute in Mumbai, will give an illustrated talk dealing with the traditions of storytelling on cloth exemplified in the painted kalamkaris of Andhra Pradesh, which draw upon Hindu deity stories as well as the great Indian epics, and the Srinathji pichwais of the temple town of Nathdwara which are devoted to the narrative and worship of Krishna. Included in the presentation will be a discussion of the relevance of these textiles in contemporary Indian life.

+Tentatively! Ms. Merani will lead a small group of members into the 5th floor galleries to comment upon the meanings found in the textiles and items found there. Details to be finalized.
